- עִיטּוּר, עִפּ׳m. (עָטַר) 1) crowning, wreathing. Ber.51a, v. preced.(Y. ib. VII, end, 11d, read: עָטוּר, v. עָטַר. Bicc. III, 10 ע׳ הבכורים מיןוכ׳ the basket of first-fruits must be wreathed with plants different from those offered. Y.Ab. Zar. I, 39d משם עיתור (corr. acc.) as a decoration in honor of an idolatrous deity, v. פְּרַקְסִיס.Pl. עִיטּוּרִין. Y.Succ.I, 51d bot. ותולה בה ע׳וכ׳ and he suspended from the ceiling of the Succah wreaths (decorations) of material which may be used for covering. Y.Bets. I, 60b top עִיטּוּרֵי סוכה the decorations of the Succah; Y.Sabb.III, 6b bot. 2) (cmp. עִיטְרָא) cutting off; ע׳ סופרים separation of words (by omitting the conjunctive Vav) as established by the Scribes.
